The Cresst Dark Matter Search

چکیده

We present first competitive results on WIMP dark matter using the phononlight-detection technique. A particularly strong limit for WIMPs with coherent scattering results from selecting a region of the phonon-light plane corresponding to tungsten recoils. The observed count rate in the neutron band is compatible with the rate expected from neutron background. CRESST is presently being upgraded with a 66 channel SQUID readout system, a neutron shield and a muon veto system. This results in a significant improvement in sensitivity.

Neutron Background Studies for the CRESST Dark Matter Experiment

The new detection concept applied for the direct WIMP search experiment CRESST II, which enables a clear discrimination between electron recoils and nuclear recoils, will leave neutrons as the main background. This background will soon limit the sensitivity of the experiment and therefore become an important issue for the next phase of CRESST. We have performed a study based on Monte Carlo simu...

Results and plans of the CRESST dark matter search

Data taken by CRESST in 2000 with a cryogenic detector system based on 262 g sapphire crystals is used to place limits on WIMP dark matter in the Galactic Halo. The detector is especially sensitive for low-mass WIMPS with spin-dependent cross sections and improves on existing limits in this region. CRESST is now preparing for a second phase, which will use a 10 kg detector consisting of 300 g C...

GluedCaWO4 Detectors for the CRESST-II Experiment

The Cryogenic Rare Event Search with Superconducting Thermometers Phase II (CRESST-II) at the L.N.G.S in Italy is searching for Dark Matter using low-temperature calorimeters. These detectors allow to discriminate di erent particles by simultaneous measurement of phonons and scintillation light. The sensors used consist of superconducting tungsten thinlm thermometers, which measure the thermal ...

Implications of the DAMA and CRESST experiments for mirror matter-type dark matter

Mirror atoms are expected to be a significant component of the galactic dark matter halo if mirror matter is identified with the non-baryonic dark matter in the Universe. Mirror matter can interact with ordinary matter via gravity and via the photon-mirror photon kinetic mixing interaction – causing mirror charged particles to couple to ordinary photons with effective electric charge ǫe. This m...

Cryogenic Composite Detectors for the Dark Matter Experiments CRESST and EURECA

Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are candidates for non-baryonic Dark Matter. WIMPs are supposed to interact with baryonic matter via scattering off nuclei producing a nuclear recoil with energies up to a few 10 keV with a very low interaction rate of ∼10−6 events per kg of target material and day in the energy region of interest. The Dark Matter experiment CRESST (Cryogenic Rare Ev...
